Panel Discussion: Power PaaS, Next Generation Cloud Platforms
PaaS initially earned the negative – but appropriate – reputation of locking in developers and their resulting applications to the PaaS provider’s own infrastructure services. If an application was developed on a PaaS, it would be forced to live there forever due to language differences, incompatibilities with other IaaS offerings and dependencies on specialized PaaS services. PaaS offerings are undergoing dramatic change in recent months, including a focus on multi-language support, multi-cloud deployment capabilities and common developer services.
This session will examine the transformation of platform services from one of the greatest sources of cloud lock-in to one of the most open and flexible approaches to leveraging infrastructure services.
- This session will also explore:
- The subtle shift from stackification to layerization of PaaS capabilities,
- Why PaaS offerings are moving from single to multi-language support,
- How “generic” developer services and middleware are contributing to cloud evolution,
- What changes at the PaaS layer mean to the future of IaaS,
- Does PaaS enable enterprises to leverage the right mix of elasticity and site acceleration
- How to deploy an enterprise PaaS strategy
- How a Private PaaS differs from a Public PaaS
- What to consider when implementing and deploying PaaS Strategy
- Case studies of enterprises using private / Public / hybrid PaaS offerings
