CTO Roundtable: How analytics will enable the cloud
This panel closes the conference by bringing together some of the industry's major thought leaders from the industry's largest providers of analytics for the cloud infrastructure. Analyst Mike Karp leads a technical discussion that discusses how cloud-focused analytics will maximize cloud service delivery. Members of the panel are:
Panelists:
- Luke Lonergan, CTO, EMC Greenplum
- Cameron Bahar, Chief Strategist/Technologist - Big Data & scale-out storage platforms. Hitachi Data Systems
- Denis Kennelly, VP Development & CTO, Tivoli Netcool, IBM Software Group
- Moderator: Mike Karp, VP and Principal Analyst, Ptak/Noel
Description of content:
Examining and implementing cloud-based services is a part of most companies' IT strategy. The challenge is that the infrastructure that delivers cloud-based service is extremely complex, and is subject to frequent changes as demands shift and various aspects of the system interact with one another. Understanding how to consume such services efficiently (or if you are a service provider, how to provide them cost-efficiently) is a fundamental but challenging part of this process. Now, a new generation of analytics software provides the necessary guidance that data center managers and service providers need to optimize service consumption and delivery, and to build trusted and economically sound long-term relationships.
Topics for discussion will include how analytics can contribute to:
- Understanding user demand, networks, storage, servers and security so as to persistently maintain the greatest efficiency
- Optimizing Infrastructure use within the inherently "bursty" environment of the cloud
- Service delivery and service consumption efficiencies that can contribute to a utility service model
- Accounting for usage trends so as to understand which resources will be needed and when they will be required
- Factoring in the reliability of the various technologies in use
- Other topics of specific interest each vendor panelist
This discussion is open to everyone, but will be particularly valuable to technologists and strategists involved in their company's cloud computing strategy. If your company’s strategic plan includes an investment in cloud computing, and if you are a part of the process as a decision-maker or influencer, this panel is for you.
