Business Value: Justifying the cloud
Cloud has started to emerge from the marketing hype, the real value of cloud architecture is coming into view. A complex architectural solution impacting not
only technology, but people and process. The range of decisions involved in the evaluation of a typical solution is daunting. Business must consider financial, risk, operations, security and architecture impacts for adopting the cloud. They must also carefully analyze the applications workloads to determine if they are able to take advantage of horizontally scalable architectures and elasticity.
How do you answer the questions of "Why, How, and What?"
As an innovation, cloud it is starting to move as a valid solution for early adopters to early majority. It this class of user, a large number of traditional enterprises are face with cloud challenges. The complexity of the decisions and the difficulty in integrating legacy environment is a major barrier of adoption.
Success requires an agile deployment method that leverages unique knowledge of your existing developers and operations staff to deliver tangible results. Most of all, deployment must be focussed on tangible value.
How do you justify your investments in cloud ?
Three critical concepts are important when justifying complex IT adoption;
Trigger Event(s)
Scenario Analysis
Data Snapshot(ing)
These tools will define the expected return of value, specific to each enterprise; assist in scoping the deployment method, developing solution architecture and vendor selection.
To practically demonstrate these concepts we will solicit real world examples from the audience and explore the potential business value of the cloud for these environments.
